Update for March 2020

  • Facebook Social Icon

The Carpenters Arms Noggin on 11th February attracted a good number of people, 38 members and 4 Morgans. The Noggin on 25th February at the North Pole in Wateringbury was popular following the splendid way the pub looked after us for our Christmas Noggin. The 29th February found us at The Inn on the Pond in Nutfield, but there weren’t any leap year marriage proposals in our group!

As reported last month Maggie and Les are organising a lunchtime Noggin for Sexmog at the very easterly end of Sussex at THE ROBIN HOOD, Main Road, Icklesham, East Sussex, TN36 4BD on Sunday 8th March 2020 from 12 noon. Hopmoggers are, as always, welcome to attend. The menu (including a Sunday Roast Special) and further details can be found on the pub’s website The pub doesn’t need to know peoples’ choices prior to the day but they require final numbers in advance. If you’re interested email by 3rd March.

The Curling is fully booked so please contact Paul Knight if you’d like to see if there have been any last minute cancellations.

There are a small number of rooms left at the Powdermills Hotel for the Annual Dinner Dance but these are going fast.

There are only 3 rooms left of our 20 room allocation for the RNLI visit in October, these will be released on a first come first served basis so you need to book quickly or risk missing out.

The booking deadline is Tue 24th March for our Spring Walk. Starting at the Café in Emmetts Garden this walk will pass through old woodland until we reach Toys Hill. We then head to Ide Hill across grass fields (sheep, cows), following the Greensand Way, and affording good views to the south. From Ide Hill the walk returns to Emmetts Garden mainly along roads. Distance is about 4 miles. There is a long uphill section between Toys Hill and Ide Hill making this a slightly more challenging walk than our normal offerings.

You can book now via our website for our visit to the Weald and Downland Living Museum which rescues and faithfully re-builds historic buildings from the south east of England. It now has over 50 of these which can be visited, and earlier ways of life covering 1,000 years experienced. The buildings are all set in a glorious 40 acre site featuring extensive walks and many demonstrations of rural life. There is an excellent cafe, which is dog friendly, with hot meals until 3.00pm and snacks etc. until 5.00pm when the museum closes.

Kevin Still is organising our attendance at Motors by the Moat. The show returns to Leeds Castle with vintage, high performance and classic cars on display all around the Castle grounds. With a host of rare, limited edition vehicles, modified cars, kit cars and American cars on display. This year discover a World War II military section to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, as well as plenty of other displays including an International stunt driver and a jet-ski show.

Bookings are now being taken on for Leonardslee Gardens, Bexhill 100 and Chilham Chase.

Links to all of these events and details of Noggins can be found below.

In March’s Hopmog Review, the theme for MORGANS HAVING FUN is MORGANS IN SPRINGTIME. With the recent poor weather there’s not been much opportunity to drive Morgans so Maggie and Les are struggling for photos. Please send any pics you might have to by Sunday 15th March 2020 providing as much information as possible – where, when and why. Perhaps you can look back to previous years or perhaps – hopefully - the weather will improve in the next few days.

John Watson is organising a private trip to the Ardennes on the weekend of September 26/27. The cars will leave on the euro tunnel early on the Saturday and will return Monday evening, although some will be staying until Tuesday evening. There is room for a few more cars. If you are interested in going please contact John Watson on for further details.

You should have had your 2020 printed calendar with your membership renewal form, we have some spares if you’d like an extra copy for your partner or to keep in your Morgan. Don’t forget that the whole of the year’s events are on our website and each event entry will have more information as the dates get nearer.
