I hope none of you were affected by the floods that hit parts of Kent and Surrey in the run up to Christmas, Morgans and water don’t mix well!
December is normally a quiet month for visits, partly because of the weather and partly because many people are preoccupied with festive preparations. We were busy with other events though, starting with the Christmas Noggin at The North Pole in Wateringbury near Maidstone. Many thanks to Jackie and Marcus Fielder who did a great job organising the evening, the buffet style carvery worked very well and the food was excellent. 57 members had a great time with many sporting their finest Christmas jumpers and hats.
BHM’s Xmas Party at the garage continued the festive celebrations. A really good turn out, I arrived at 10:50 to find the car park almost full, apparently some people hadn’t realised it had a later starting time and had turned up at 9:30 as they normally would for a BHM breakfast. The sandwiches, sausage rolls, mince pies etc. were very much appreciated, as was the continuous flow of tea and coffee. The quiz seemed a little easier this year and had a White Christmas theme, after Sarah had announced the winners I was delighted to present BHM with 6 bottles of red wine and 6 bottles of white from the club, as a thank you for their support over the year.
On Wednesday 11th December we had our Christmas Lunch at the Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells organised by Les & Maggie Cornish. As always this was very popular and was fully booked. There was a little concern when the hotel said that the room we normally use was no longer available but the Orangery worked every bit as well. This year the raffle raised £330 for St. Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley.
The last Noggin of the year was at The Bowl Inn in Charing. Attendance was slightly down with 18 members and 2 Morgans. The weather was pretty awful and traffic problems on the M20 and A20 may have put some people off. Marie and I had intended to be there but an hour and a half after setting off, 25 miles to go and sitting in stationary traffic we decided to throw in the towel and head back home.
Bookings for the Annual Dinner Dance are going well with over 60 people booked, most arriving on Friday and making a long weekend of it. If you haven’t booked yet I’d suggest you do so soon, especially if you want to stay at the Powdermills Hotel as there aren’t many rooms left.
At the moment the Ten Pin Bowling is full, but Les and Maggie may book another lane if there is enough support. The closing date is Friday 3rd January.
The Curling is fully booked so please contact Paul Knight if you’d like to be put on the reserve list. Paul has sent an email confirmation to everyone who has booked. If you have submitted a booking form but have not received confirmation then please contact Paul at email@example.com.
Links to all of these events and details of Noggins can be found below.
This year’s events are already on the website Events Calendar, so you won’t have to wait until the printed version is sent out at the beginning of February. Many thanks to Alan Patterson for putting them all on the site, I know he’s glad it’s only a once a year job!
Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and successful New Year and I hope you are able to get in many miles, and smiles, in your Morgan in 2020.
